What is socialization?  Introduction to society's beliefs, norms, values, and behaviors.
Concerned with the continuity of society - issues of conformity and change.

Why examine our own socialization?

Agents of Socialization Socialization takes place in larger social groups--race, class and gender.  Our membership in these groups affects our opportunities both in society and in education.

K-12 students are much more diverse than are public school teachers.


Key Questions:

1.  How does society continue form one generation to the next?
2.  What role does education or schooling play?
3.  How do our own restricted or limited backgrounds affect our ability to interact with people of different backgrounds?
