Tuesday 23 May 2006

Field Review of Abiquiu Geological Exercise, laundry in Espanola, and dinner in Santa Fe, NM

The group will pack lunch at Abiquiu on Thursday morning (departure at 8 A.M.). Students and staff will return to the Abiquiu field area to examine the geologic map they have compiled and to get feedback on the mapping exercise and their geologic maps (from 8 A.M. to 1 P.M.).

The afternoon will be a Laundry run to Espanola and then dinner in Santa Fe, NM. Return to Abiquiu Dam campground in early evening.

Wednesday 24 May to 26 May 2006

Cuba Geological mapping exercise and Geohydrology exercise on Rio Puerco

Daily commute from Abiquiu campground to field area south of Cuba, NM. The field mapping group will be split into two groups. One group will work on geological mapping in the Rio Grande rift region near Cuba, NM region (Senorita Canyon) and the other group will work on a surface and groundwater geohydrology exercise in the Rio Puerco drainage. The Geohydrology exercise is four days in length and has several field trips, each with data collection related to the exercise. On Wednesday the whole group will examine the Gallina Plaza region (north of Cuba, NM) for an introduction to the stratigraphic section and contact relationships in the mapping region.

Friday 16 June to Saturday 17 June 2006

Travel and field trip from northern New Mexico to southcentral Colorado.

This travel will be similar to the move westward. Pack your necessary gear for 1 night of camping and 2 days of travel just like the trip out from North Carolina. All other gear in camp managers vehicle and trailer. All meals will be provided on the road and at campground. This field trip will have a geologic exercise that will be completed that day (so, plan on a little geologic mapping, sediment analysis and answering some questions).
