Good evening and welcome to our monthly staff meeting here at the Good Shepherd Center. I first want to begin by thanking you all for the successes we have seen this year. Thank you for our success in the Blankets4Love Project. Thank you for our success in the Food Drive last month. Thank you for our success in our fundraising this year so far.(Anaphora) Thank you, thank you, thank you! As you are all aware we have one of our biggest event coming up on March 19, the Empty-Bowls Event. We partake in this bi-annual event to help raise money to fight hunger, to raise awareness of issues of hunger and food security, and to hopefully bring about new attitudes so that someday hunger will no longer exist. This has been one of our biggest events in the past, and we are looking for no less this year.
I am very pleased with the sponsors we have helping us out this year, ranging from The Melting Pot to New Elements Gallery and Jester’s Cafe. We appreciate these sponsors extending their helping hands(Synecdoche) with this event and you all deserve a big round of applause for the good work in obtaining them. Unfortunately, tickets for the Empty-Bowls Event have not been selling like hot cakes, or even selling like hot bowls of soup for that matter. We fear that word of the event isn’t being spread fast enough.
However, we have a few ideas that may help turn this around and keep this event the great success we have seen in the past. We have some flyers that Miss Becca was kind enough to design for us. These flyers are already hanging in the windows of our sponsors, but the idea is to have other local businesses help promote the event as well. All I ask is that you pick up a mere seven flyers and go to seven different local businesses and ask if you may hang it up in their window. Ideas for places most likely to allow you to hang flyers include coffee shops, restaurants, locally owned stores and art galleries, just to name a few. If each of you posts these flyers in seven businesses, hopefully ten people will pass by each one, decide to come, and those ten bring a person each and so on and so forth. By increasing advertisement, we can increase ticket sales and increase attendance at the event, and therefore increase awareness to fight hunger. (Epistrophe)
I know that each and every one of you want to see this project succeed even more so than our last Empty-Bowls Event. We are not asking for you to move mountains. We are not asking for you to part the Red Sea. We are not even asking for you call up your friends and invite them. All we ask is that you pick up seven flyers on your way out the door today and disperse them around Wilmington to help boost ticket sales. (Parallelism) I believe in all of you and know we will all do what we can to achieve the best turnout we have ever had at this year’s event. So let’s go out there and sell some tickets!
