“A Priceless Volunteer”

“Worth Their Weight in Gold…and Then Some”

Good morning! This year I have the utmost honor of presenting our “Priceless Volunteer Award.” Here at the Good Shepherd Center we consider all of our volunteers to be essential to our success, but this award is presented to those who consistently exceeds all expectations; a person who makes a personal sacrifice to be here to drive us forward with our mission of feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and fostering transition to those in crisis towards independence in the community.

The board of directors has chosen to honor someone who certainly has come to mean a lot to many of us here at the center throughout this year. She arrives, with a smile on her face and ready to work, many mornings throughout each week to begin preparing for our 6 a.m. breakfast. At a time when most others are still in the bed, she’s slaving over a stove preparing eggs, bacon, grits, and toast to ensure that those in need start their days with a full stomach.

She has also helped to lead multiple donation drives this year including our Empty Bowls Event and our annual Winter Coat Drive, where we received over 300 coats. While many others can share in the success achieved from these events, it was she who volunteered her own time to help host and organize such events on so many occasions.

As I stare at this plaque, I don’t believe that any words could have a truer sentiment.  She is indeed “worth her weight in gold.” I know that I speak for the rest of us when I say “Thank you for all your hard work and giving so much of yourself and your personal time. It is truly volunteers like you that help make this center such a success.” Please help me by giving a warm round of applause as I present this year’s “Priceless Volunteer Award” to Mrs. Becky Kaiser.
