Thank
you and good afternoon. I would like to thank you for being here today. My name
is Angie Hill and I am the Director of Marketing and Development here at The
Brigade Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington. Although I have only been with this
organization for two years now I have a seen tremendous amount of growth, love
and genuine camaraderie in the time I have been here. It is a pleasure to be
with you today to honor a person who exhibits these traits each and every day. Although
there were many employees nominated this year, there was one employee who stood
out from the rest. Today we honor our employee of the year, Dana Floyd.
The
Brigade Boys and Girls Club states its mission is to inspire and enhance all
young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize
their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. As most of
you here know, Dana has been with Brigade for quite some time now, and
currently serves as the Big Buddy Program Director. The Big Buddy Program pairs
our at-risk children up with volunteers who have the ability to spend extra
time with these children, providing them with stability, love and kindness. We
are proud to say that under the supervision of Dana, our Big Buddy Program is
both thriving and growing.
There
are five divisions of programs we offer here at Brigade: Character and
Leadership, Education and Career, Health and Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports
and Fitness. A great employee must have a hand in all of these. They must want
to help the kids grow and learn, as well as always strive for growth
themselves. As well as being the
Director of the Big Buddy Program, Dana volunteers her time tutoring daily,
heading one of our softball teams, and has become a face painting artist who is
in high demand among our youth.
But
what exactly has made Dana such a valuable employee? It is all the extras. Dana
is a person you will see here almost any day you walk into the club. She comes
in early and stays late. She truly throws herself into her work. But it is the children here who we trust to
judge the character of our employees. Dana has been overwhelmingly accepted by the
kids here at the club. Ask any one of the kids here at the club, both in the kid
center and the teen center, and they will tell you how cool Dana is. Whether she’s running errands for us here,
answering phones or overseeing a game of tag, she is an employee we are most
lucky to have.
Employee
of the year is an honorable award that is given to the person who has truly
exhibited a strong work effort for the organization. Along with a plaque that
will hang on our wall of honorees, employee of the year receives a weeks’ paid
vacation to the destination of their choice within the continental
