Motivational Speech

Good morning and thank you all very much for coming in. I have called you here today because each one of you helped me at the beginning of the year with volunteer recruitment, but eventually lost interest as the months went by. Volunteers make Lower Cape Fear Hospice possible and we can always use more volunteers. One of our training seminars is coming up next month and we haven’t had enough people sign up.

The Life Care Center needs more volunteers, the nursing home next door needs more volunteers, but most of all, the lonely patient needs more volunteers (Epistrophe). We need to get the word out about our cause. By splitting up into small teams we can cover a wider variety of outlets. One team can focus on getting the word out in our newsletter. Another can start planning an ad for some of the local papers. Some of our younger staff can put up flyers and talk to students at the local community college and university.

Each of you must work as a team or not work at all (Antithesis). Let your teammates know about your ideas before carrying them out. You never know, one of your teammates could end up making your idea even better. Make sure everyone in the group is giving it their all. By working in these groups it is more likely that we will not lose people one by one as they lose interest. Keep your fellow worker engaged and active in your project.

I want to give each team a goal of recruiting at least ten volunteers each. Even if each team can only manage to recruit one volunteer, then that is still one more pair of hands we didn’t have before (Synecdoche). So remember, we need help in order to help those in need (Chaismus).
