Presentation Speech
Good evening everyone, and thank you for coming out tonight on this special occasion. My name is Daniel Harkey, I am a long time supporter of the New Hanover Humane Society, and tonight it is my honor to present the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award.
The Humane Society has a few simple goals as an organization and that is to offer shelter, protection, and an opportunity for adoption for cats and dogs in the surrounding area. Through donations and fundraisers, working with Old Navy, CiCi’s Pizza, and Food Lion, this mission is possible. The organization also has a spay/neuter clinic and offers helpful information for use during a hurricane that offers protection to the animals as well as their owners.
Tonight we honor a person that has shown achievement in every area of this organization. This person has volunteered more time than any other individual. The care and attention this person has provided for the animals as well as fellow volunteers is outstanding and deserves to be recognized. No matter what the task, this person is always ready to offer help and support whether it’s hands on care with the animals, working with fundraisers, or spreading the information on how to protect your animals. To my knowledge this person has not missed a single fundraiser and has the best attendance of any volunteer in the organization. The difference the person makes cannot be found in numbers or on a piece of paper. A person’s time is valuable and this individual offers so much it on a daily basis to our organization. The efforts of this individual is what makes the mission of this organization possible.
There are many people that offer their time through the year to our organization but one stands out the most. Please join me in congratulating Meagan McGuire, as I present her with this plaque acknowledging her as the 2009, New Hanover Humane Society, Volunteer of the Year.
Thank you everyone for coming and please drive home safely. Good night.
