106 January 3. Cicero born at Arpinum, a city sixty miles southeast of Rome.
97 Near this time, Cicero moved to Rome.
91 Failure of enfranchisement brings Italian war--called the Social War.
90 Cicero comes of age, assumes the white toga of manhood.
89 Cicero studies law with Scaevola the Augur; serves briefly in the Social war.
88 He studies philosophy and attends speeches of leading orators.
87 Cicero attends lectures on rhetoric. Reign of terror and purge of aristocrats in Rome.
86 He begins writing on rhetoric--De Inventione Rhetorica.
82 Cicero attends lectures on public speaking.
80 Cicero has his first important law case; defends Roscius of Ameria.
78 He travels in Asia Minor and studies public speaking at Rhodes.
77 He returns to Rome and marries Terentia.
63 After denouncing Catiline a year earlier, Cicero is elected consul. He had served as aedilis
curulis and Praetor in 70 and 67.
58 Clodius drives Cicero into exile for having put to death Roman citizens without a trial.
57 Cicero returns to Rome.
55 Cicero writes De Oratore; Caesar invades Britain.
54 Cicero writes Partitiones Oratoriae; Caesar invades Britain again.
46 Cicero resides at Rome and writes De Partitone Oratoria, Brutus, and Orator.
43 Cicero is spokesman for war against Antony. When Antony comes to power, Cicero attempts
to flee. Illness strikes him before he can leave Macedonia. Soldiers kill him near Formiae
on December 7.
