Motivational Speech
First
of all, I’d like to thank you all for showing up today for this meeting. As you know, the Humane Society works through
both employees and volunteers in order to get our tasks accomplished. The
employees must be here every day or else they would have to start looking for a
new job. The volunteers like yourself,
however, have no obligations to fulfill to this organization. But, volunteers have heart. Volunteers have drive. Volunteers have choices.(Anaphora) Life
is full of choices and we are so pleased that so many of you have chosen us as
part of your lives.
That
being said, I’d like to stress the importance of putting your all into the
choice you have made to volunteer your services to the Humane Society. We have been having issues with volunteers
not showing up when they say they will, not staying their full amount of time,
or simply not really being all that interested in what they’re doing. I assume that if you chose to take part in an
organization like the Humane Society, that you will be moderately interested in
it as a whole. However, this does not
currently seem to be the case. We are deficient
in sheer volunteer numbers, we are not getting the things accomplished which we
set-forth, and we are lacking in enthusiasm from the volunteers that do actually
show up. When we have public adoptions
at PetSmart, we need volunteers to come out and be enthusiastic and motivated
enough to place these dogs and cats into loving homes. If we aren’t interested in what we’re doing,
more than likely, the perspective adopters won’t be all that interested
either.
The
Wilmington branch Humane Society has decided to put forth a competition for you
volunteers to give you some sort of motivating incentive for your efforts. We contacted several of the major radio
stations in the area to broadcast our adoption days. We have put together a competition in which the
volunteer who adopts out the most number of animals during our public adoption
days in March will win an all-expense paid weekend trip to Atlanta to stay in
the world-renowned W hotel of their choice.
This trip will be for 2-3 people – your choice, and will include
round-trip airfare and lodging in Atlanta.
Atlanta is home to one of the biggest and best national aquariums, an
amazing night life, a wide array of exciting restaurants and shopping, as well
as sports teams.
I
would like to extend this invitation to all of the volunteers in the Wilmington
area. For once, your volunteer efforts
will pay off in a way that goes beyond your own personal satisfaction. For once, your volunteer efforts will be
rewarded in a monetary way to really get you going. (Parallelism) Please
know that this is not an impossible task and that even a simple 3-4 adoptions
could put you in the running for a fabulous weekend getaway! Remember: to give up is human; to struggle
through and succeed is courageous. (Antithesis) Again, I’d like to thank
you all for your dedication to such a wonderful organization. Now get out there and find these animals a
loving home!
