Laboratory grades will be based on written papers, hand-in assignments, and simulation worksheets. For the labs on respiration, cardiovascular system and neuromuscular system, assignments will entail properly formatted tables or graphs. Simulations will have a fill-in-the-blank sheet, or short format assignment. One formal paper will be required during the semester, on the Human Osmoregulation lab. The formal paper will be in the form of a journal article, complete with abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion and literature cited. The papers and lab assignments must be computer-generated or typed (Microsoft Word and Excel are on the computers in DO -119 and are available for your use). Written papers, and all graphs and tables, are to be in proper journal format. Consult a physiological journal in the library, and adopt the format of articles in that journal. Examples of appropriate journals are: J. Exp. Biol., J. Exp. Zool., Comp. Biochem. Physiol., J. Comp. Physiol., Physiol. Zool.
The formula for the calculation of lab grades will be: Short assignments - 4 @ 7.5% each = 30%, Formal paper - 40%, Simulation worksheets - 6 @ 5% each = 30%
The short assignments and simulation worksheets are due at the next laboratory meeting following their assignment. The formal paper is due no later than your last laboratory session during the week of Dec. 03. The final simulations are due in your lab instructor's mail box in Dobo Hall no later than 5pm, Dec. 12. No papers, simulations or assignments will be accepted after their due dates.
