Students in English can choose from an exciting variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in such areas as:

• American, British, and world literature

• The English language and linguistics

• Professional writing, including technical writing, business writing, and journalism

• Expository writing, rhetoric, and composition

• Film studies

• Teacher training

For undergraduates, UNCW offers a bachelor's degree with four options.  Majors can focus their studies on literature, professional writing, or teacher preparation, or they can design their own English major through the individualized option.

Majors in other departments can further their love of literature and increase their communication skills by minoring in English. They can also gain a valuable career credential by earning certification in professional writing. 

For graduate students, the department offers are offer two outstanding master's programs, in literature and critical literacy.
