Hominin Skull Exercise

ANT 105

Spring 2010

In order to make up this exercise, you will need to make an appointment with Dr. Reber, so she can set you up with some skulls.  Once this has happened, choose a skull from the selection offered.  Examine it closely and answer the following questions.

1)       Is this skull a hominin or not?  How do you know?  If it is not a hominin, give Dr. Reber a dirty look and get one for questions 2-3.

2)       You now hopefully have a hominin.  Look at its teeth.  What did it eat?  How do you know?

3)      Was this a gracile Australopithecine, robust Australopithecine, or member of genus Homo?  How do you know?  Can you determine the species, based on readings and lecture?
