Why War with Iraq?

1. Identify all reasons.

• They possess weapons of mass destruction.
• They refuse or mislead weapons inspections.
• Aiding terrorists connected to 9/11.
• Brutality towards Iraqi people.
• Oil markets. 
• Threat to Israel and Iraq ’s neighbors – Turkey , Iran , Syria , Egypt .

2. Consider those reasons in light of the material we've covered thus far this semester.


3. In light of #2, will war effectively address issues in #1? How so?   Are there other more effective or less costly means?

Is preemptive vs. reactive war justified?

Why Iraq ?

Who is next?

Why is there lack of support internationally?

Why anti-American sentiments internationally?

What damage to U.S. international relations?

What will we do after the war?

How will people of Iraq respond to extreme social change?

Who will lead Iraq ?  Will they be pro-U.S.?

 Consequences of U.S. intervention?   (modernization, industrialization, democratization, globalization)
