Exam 1 Essay Questions
 

Type an essay answer to each of the questions below (probably about 2 pages, maybe more if you become passionate about your answer!).  Turn these in on Thursday February 27 in class. I will randomly select three questions to grade.  We will not have class on Tuesday February 25. Use that time to work on your essay questions.  I will be available to meet that day during our class time if anyone needs clarification on any of the questions below.  Feel free to email me (pricej@uncw.edu) as well with any questions you have.  I will be out of town Thursday February 20 thru Saturday February 22.

Describe the five areas of major social changes that have occurred historically across the world.   Give examples of each.

Choose five of the 10 major causes of social change. Explain each. Be sure to use examples to illustrate your points.

Describe the four areas of major social changes that have occurred in the U.S.  Give examples of each.

What are transitory social changes?  Why are they important?  Give examples of each.

Explain the three macro theories of social change -- modernization, dependency theory, and world systems theory.  Be sure to include the major tenets of each theory, how social change best occurs according to each theory, and the limitations of each theory.
