Essay 1: Introduction
In the search for a solution to a social problem, several issues must be considered. Among them are considerations of economic cost of the solution, whether or not the solution creates other problems, and whether the solution is feasible. Choose a social problem on campus, explain how the problem came to be, and suggest a possible solution, supporting your view using argument and evidence.
Essay 2: Theory
Select one of the three sociological perspectives described in class and in the text. Describe its view of the family as an institution in society. When would this perspective see the family as a social problem?
Essay 3: Interpersonal Relations
Many people tend to think of domestic violence in terms of spousal or child abuse, yet abuse of the elderly is also a prime concern in our changing society. Consider some types of abuse of the elderly, citing possible reasons why such abuse might take place.

Some, such as the Japanese and Chinese Americans, have become quite successful, while others, such as African Americans and Puerto Rican Americans, still lag behind on most indicators or socioeconomic status.
