HEA 325 PROJECT

Project for Health and Aging, HEA 325.

Design and present to the class a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that deals with any health-related topic pertinent to the aged.  You may work in groups of three or less (anyone needing a group or partner see me).  The concept, medium chosen, and presentation format is up to you.  Each group will present to the class the process that they went through, as well as presenting the final product. See below for steps to take in preparation for the project:

1. After forming a group, partner, or self, decide the concept you want to convey in the PSA - ex:

   “Staying active is important because...”
“Taking my medication is important because...”

2. Research the subject so that the information given is correct and up to date.  This can be done at the library, on the Internet, or by calling or visiting a Government or not-for-profit agency such as the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

3. Interview the target population to assess what language they would use and understand regarding the topic.  What do they already know about the topic?  What misconceptions exist?  Where are they most likely to see the PSA?

4. Based on #3, choose a format.  It can be a radio spot, a TV commercial, newspaper advertisement, a flyer, computer animation, story board, etc.  You also must choose a tone for the PSA - it can be humorous, serious, informational, etc. Just be sure it’s what the intended audience wants and needs.

5. Write a script.  It must be under 60 seconds in length.  Test the script with the intended audience.  Use their feedback to make changes, etc.

6. Using completed script - produce the PSA using the medium you have chosen.

Beginning Oct 28, project presentations will begin during the last 15 minutes of class.  Each group will take about 5 minutes to explain the process that led to the PSA.

IMPORTANT!

Keep detailed notes (idea’s, questions used in interviews, old scripts, research gathered, illustrations, pictures, graphics) and put them in a 3-ring binder.  This is the process.  This is part of your grade.
