Theodore A. Wilson Scholarship in Information Technology

 

Ted Wilson Purpose

This scholarship is the first scholarship in the Program in Information Technology. This scholarship honors Ted Wilson's commitment to education at all levels while providing students in the Program in Information Technology with the financial resources they need to finish their degrees. Ted Wilson was a highly respected professor and researcher who dedicated 38 years of his career to advancing knowledge at all levels from sophomores to graduate students.

As the first scholarship within this program, the Ted Wilson Scholarship plays a vital role in making sure that students, regardless of their financial situation, can complete their education and enter the workforce as highly trained IT professionals. He was passionate about advising his students to continue their education and pursue their professional goals. This drive to continue their education is a characteristic demonstrated by many students in the Program in Information Technology, proven by the number of transfer students in the program.

Criteria

The scholarship is considered a merit scholarship and the recipient will be selected on demonstrated academic ability and special achievement. It is the intent of the donor that the award be given to a graduate student in creative nonfiction whose work is biographical or in other ways researched as opposed to personl in nature. When selecting a recipient, consideration should be given to a student’s availability of resources and support for pursuing a graduate degree.  The recipient must have been accepted for admission to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and be interested in pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Creative Writing in the Master of Fine Arts program.  The scholarship may be awarded to graduate students.  The scholarship may be renewed for returning students at the discretion of the award authority, provided they continue to meet the award criteria.
