Students wishing to go to veterinary school can pursue any major, as long as a core of science, mathematics and humanities courses are completed. The exact suite of courses that a student will need to take will be dependent upon the veterinary school(s) to which they apply. The linked table below lists the required course for North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, the only veterinary school in our state.

Maintaining a strong GPA is critical to be competitive for veterinary school. Above and beyond coursework, students must have experience working, volunteering or participating in some way, in the veterinary field.
The pre-veterinary advisor can help guide the way towards preparing for veterinary school. Ultimately, though, each student is responsible for ensuring their own preparedness for applying to the school(s) of their choice. It is advised that students contact their academic and pre-vet advisor early in their career at UNCW. Students should also seek out information about veterinary schools on their own, and contact a school directly if needed.
