Hello and thank you again for visiting the CDL!
The CDL is comprised of a team of stellar UNCW Departament of Psychology graduate and undergraduate student research assistants. Together, we are excited to have the opportunity to work towards making scientific discoveries regarding conceptual development during childhood and adulthood.
Simone Nguyen, Ph.D.
Dr. Nguyen is the director of the CDL and a professor of Psychology at UNCW. She is also on the Editorial Boards of Cognitive Development and Journal of Cognition & Development. Dr. Nguyen received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology with a minor in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Graduate Students
Micah Hoggat, B.A., University of North Carolina Wilmington
Micah is a 2nd year graduate student in the Psychological Science Concentration in the Department of Psychology at UNCW. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a concentration in Sociology from UNCW. Her special interests are in examining social influences on developing children. In the future, she plans on becoming a sports psychologist or child psychologist.
Bella Seip, B.A., University of Notre Dame
Bella is a doctoral student in the General Clinical Ph.D. program at UNCW. She recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame where she earned her bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Behavior. Bella loves all research related to cognitive development but has a special interest in examining cognitive development in atypically developing children.
Undergraduates
Bea Perry
Bea is a senior Psychology major at UNCW, and originally from Cary, NC. She is currently in her second year as a member of the Cognitive Development Lab, working on her honors thesis. She has an ongoing interest in child development, specifically the impact of chronic illness in childhood on cognitive development. In the future, she hopes to become either a Child Life Specialist, or a school psychologist.
Trinity Williams
Trinity is a senior at UNCW majoring in Psychology with a minor in Leadership Studies. She plans to pursue an MSW and become a licensed social worker. She is passionate about
foster care children and providing them with the love, support, and resources they deserve. She hopes to work in the foster care system as a therapist. Trinity loves being a part of
the Cognitive Development Lab because of her relationship with our diverse team and the exciting hands-on research!

Alexis Longinetti, B.A., University of North Carolina Wilmington
Alexis recently graduated from UNCW in May 2022 with a BA in Psychology. She has been in the CDL since August 2021. Alexis is currently an Elementary Special Education teacher for students in first, second, and third grade. She is also beginning the first phase of the MA in Teaching Special Education program at UNCC in the spring. Alexis is so excited to share about our research!
