Presentation Guidelines

Outline for a presentation

• The issue

1. What is the issue ? Describe it in sufficient detail so that the audience understands it.
2. What problems (or benefits) does the issue generate ?
3. Who is affected by it ? How are they affected ?
4. What is the impact ? Monetary, economic, productivity other ? What statistics exist on this matter ?
   

• The three sides of the story

1. The proponents. What is the position of the people who are not bothered by it. How do they defend their position ?
2. The opponents. What is the position of the people who are bothered by it. How do they defend their position ?
3. The truth. What would an unbiased view find ? What have judges, and courts said on the matter ?

• Possible solutions

1. Technological, legal, economic, social solutions for the issue.
2. How will the proposed solution make things better ? 
3. How will the proposed solution make things worse ?

• Concluding remarks

1. How do people see the issue developing in the future ?
2. Based on your research, what can you say about future developments in this matter ?

Powerpoint guidelines

• Plan on using no more than 15 slides for a 20 minute presentation.
• No more than 6-8 lines/points per slide
• Large, readable font. Say a minimum of 16-18 point font.
• Use color, animation etc. judiciously. Too much annoys and distracts.
