CSC 231 Grading Guidelines
- Submitted code has syntax errors - No testing is possible and you receive a grade of 0 for the assignment.
- Submissions that are free of syntax errors are graded as follows:
- Documentation and coding conventions (DOCC) grade:
- Your code adheres to coding conventions described here, and it is well documented using docstring comments. You receive a DOCC grade of 1. Here are two steps you can take in this regard:
- Document first.
Write the docstring comments for your code - function, class, method -
first. Use the docstring as a guide when you write the code.
- In PyCharm use Code/Inspect to inspect your code for coding convention violations. Fix any violations detected.
- Your code violates one or more coding conventions, or it is poorly documented. You receive a DOCC grade of no more than 0.7, depending on the extent of the violations.
- Functionality grade: have you done what you were asked to do? does your code function as expected? This is graded as described in each assignment.
- Final assignment grade = DOCC grade * functionality grade.
Thus,
if your code functions as expected and is properly documented and
follows coding conventions, you get a grade of 1*100 = 100. On the
other hand, if your code is functional but is poorly documented, you
get a grade no higher than 0.7*100 = 70.
