Service to the University

1. University committee memberships, leadership positions, or administrative duties

Core member, Large Course Redesign Team. The committee is responsible for (1) evaluating large enrollment courses, (2) identifying one or two courses that are appropriate for being redesigned for online delivery (given specific criteria), (3) mapping the course organization and re-designing specifications, and (4) writing a grant proposal to receive funding to redesign the course, Spring 2004-Present.

Member, University Curriculum Committee, 2001-present.

Member, Elected to serve in Graduate Council (for two terms). I have served in three different subcommittees within the Council (Program and Curriculum Committee (chair for two years, member for five years); Students Affairs (member for four years); Policy and Planning (member for three years), 1999-present.

Member, Teacher Education Council, 2003-present.

Member, Baseline Standards for Computers & Network Committee, 1999-present. I have also served in two sub-committees during Spring 2004. One committee reviewed the Presentation of Online Courses and explored strategies for coordinating campus efforts in this area. Another committee, “Web Coordination Committee” explored strategies for coordinating web development efforts on campus, Spring, 2004.

Member, Distance and Distributed Education Committee, 2001-present.

Member, Advisory Committee for International Programs, 1996-1997 & 2002-present. I have also served as a reviewer for evaluating proposals for International Travel Awards and for Summer Study Abroad programs (2002-2003 and 2003-2004). A large number of proposals are submitted for these awards.

Member, Faculty Advisory Committee for Center for Teaching Excellence, 2002-present.

Member, Member of Web Coordination Committee, 2001-present.

Member, Member of Hearing Panel, 2002-present.

Member, Information Technology Committee (Faculty Senate, Technology Committee), 2000-2003.

Member, Chancellor Advisory Committee, 1998-1999 & 2002-2003.

Delegate - Faculty Assembly, elected 2001 for 3-year term, but I gave my election to another faculty in order to apply for faculty reassignment award.

Member, SACS Committee for Reviewing Undergraduate Programs. The committee was in charge of reviewing all undergraduate programs’ reports using SACS accreditation guidelines and recommending changes, if needed, and writing a final report, 2000-2001.

Member, Served in the Campus Judicial Board, 2000-2001.

Served in the University of Wales Swansea Search Committee, Spring 2000.

Served in the Search Committee for the Director of Minority Affairs, 1999-2000. We spent a significant amount of time since we had more than 120 applicants for the position.

Member, served on Faculty Welfare Committee, 1998-1999.

Member, Evaluation Committee, 1996-1998.
Served on Critical International Issues Committee. The committee explored strategies to promote awareness on international issues for UNCW campus, Spring, 1997.

Member, UNCW Research Committee, 1994-1996.

Member, Cape Fear Educational Partnership Network Task Force, 1993-1995.

Member, UNCW Freshman Mentor Program, 1993-1994.
