Other Service to the University

a. Student organizations and related services

I coordinated and supervised Instructional Technology Master’s students to develop demonstration materials for Chancellor DePaolo’s Installation events. Our program had two booths for demonstration (one with Graduate Programs and another with ITSD) (Spring 2004).
I participated in development of the live video “Eye on UNCW.” The video was developed by ITSD to provide a summary of UNCW programs and activities (Fall 2002).

I participated in one-day meeting that was organized by campus Career Service. A number of potential internship employers were invited to meet and discuss internship opportunities for UNCW students. I participated in the panel discussion, presented the Instructional Technology Master’s Program, and responded to employers’ questions (Spring 2004).

Since the 1999-2000 academic year, I have visited regularly, and met with various companies and educational settings to explore possible internship and job opportunities for our instructional technology master’s students. I have now established academic relationships with about 10 different internship sites.

Since Fall 1999, as the graduate coordinator for the Instructional Technology Master’s Program, I have taken the responsibility of presenting the program in schools, businesses and also professional organizations to help with recruiting students.

I have been instrumental in helping both graduate and undergraduate students whom I advise in developing professional resumes and strategies for pursuing job opportunities (see supporting documents, Binder # 1). I have also provided assistance to those students who needed my support as an advisor and/or a reference. My support usually ranges from writing recommendation letters to serving as a reference for their job applications. In many cases, I have also called school systems or other organizations to find out about job opportunities and job fairs to help my advisees in their career development.
