Grading and Attendance Policy: Academic Code

Attendance Policy:  Although one variable in the grading policy is dependent upon class participation,  attendance to every class is not mandatory.  However,  it will be monitored.   Not only is regular attendance highly recommended but, generally,  it is implicitly necessary for average to above average grades.  However, the privilege of attending lectures, of being involved through participation, comments, questions, is yours.  You may accept or reject this privilege.  It is your responsibility to cover on your own, or through a classmate, any material you may have missed in class.

Your are expected to arrive on time each day.  Absolutely no beepers, cell phones, alarms, or baseball-type hats are permitted.  Generally, you should expect a good learning environment from me, and I in turn expect it from you.

Grading Policy Grading will be discussed in detail in class and then made a part of this web site.  Generally, grading will be based on results of test, quizzes, homework, a research paper, and participation in class discussions.

Differentiation of grade averages for a final grade will occur at ten (10) point intervals, 90-100 being an A, 80-89.99 a B, etc,. with F below 60. Plus and minus grades will be given. An average of 90-94 will be an A-, an average of 80-84 a B-, 84-87 a B, 87.01 to 89.99 a B+, and similarly for C's and D's. There is no A+.

Academic Honor Code:  Academic dishonesty of any nature will not be tolerated.  Any detected cheating during exams, plagiarizing others' work, etc., will result in failure in the course and reporting as mandidated.  Guidelines are found in the Academic Honor Code, Section V, Student Handbook and Code of Student Life. They should be studied.
