To type in Japanese (with the visual keyboard) follow these instructions:

 

  1. Go to START | CONTROL PANEL
  2. Open to the option “Date, Time, Language and Regional Options”
  3. Choose “Add other language”
  4. Make sure that “Install files for East Asian languages” is checked.
    1. If not, then check it and click OK to the message that pops up
    2. Click OK to close the Window and it will install the files (a Windows XP CD might be needed)
  5. Click DETAILS at the top of the window
  6. Check to see if Japanese is listed as an “Installed Service”
    1. If not, click ADD
    2. Select Japanese as the “Input Language” and be sure to choose a keyboard layout
  7. Close all programs and select Japanese by either “CTRL-Shift” or by using the language bar in the bottom right corner of the screen.
