About NCTAN and NCTA

The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), funded by the Freeman Foundation, is a multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about Asia in world history, geography, social studies, and literature courses. Launched in October 1998, this nationwide program is a collaboration of the East Asian Studies programs of five national institutions: The University of Washington's East Asia Resource Center, Indiana University's Asian Studies Program, Columbia University's East Asia Curriculum Project, and the Five College Center for East Asian Studies to undertake a national, multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate curriculum improvement in Asian studies at the secondary level. (NCTAN) is under the initiative of Columbia
University's East Asia Center. The Administrative Office of NCTAN
is located at UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Administrative Director is Bogdan
Leja at University Center for International
Studies. The seminar
is held at UNC-Wilmington in the academic year of 2005 - 06, and the
