About NCTAN and NCTA

The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), funded by the Freeman Foundation, is a multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about Asia in world history, geography, social studies, and literature courses.

Launched in October 1998, this nationwide program is a collaboration of the East Asian Studies programs of five national institutions: The University of Washington's East Asia Resource Center, Indiana University's Asian Studies Program, Columbia University's East Asia Curriculum Project, and the Five College Center for East Asian Studies to undertake a national, multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate curriculum improvement in Asian studies at the secondary level.   For more information, please go to http://www.nctasia.org/

North Carolina Teaching Asia Network (NCTAN) is under the initiative of Columbia University's East Asia Center.  The Administrative Office of NCTAN is located at UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Administrative Director is Bogdan Leja at University Center for International Studies.  The seminar is held at UNC-Wilmington in the academic year of 2005 - 06, and the academic director is Yoko Kano.  Please see the bottom of the home page for contact information.
