Earthquake Relief Fund

Dear Yoko:

I have been in constant contact with our friends in Tokyo since Friday. Our school has so far weathered the tragic circumstances with no significant damage, but friends even in Tokyo have told me they are still experiencing constant aftershocks. How much worse it is in northern Japan where food and water have become scarce for survivors and so many perished in the unfathomable destruction following the worst earthquake and tsunami in Japanese history. I know your prayers and thoughts are with the Japanese at this sad time.

We here at Obirin Gakuen Foundation of America feel  that it is our time to step up to the plate to help those in need right now. As with many natural disasters, one always is concerned about whether one's donations are reaching the victims. I have contacted our school in Japan. They have assured me that if we all chip in that they will guarantee that 100% of our donations will go to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

To those of you who are Japanese language or Japan Studies professors, I especially ask you to talk with your students. If they could simply donate $5, we would have thousands of dollars that we can send to relieve those in need.

Our Board member Norma Fogelberg here in the Bay Area has graciously agreed to chair the Obirin Gakuen Foundation of America Earthquake Relief Fund. If you could send checks made out to Obirin Gakuen Foundation of America to her directly, she and I will make sure that all funds are delivered to Obirin in Japan, and that Obirin then distributes the funds to the needy. Please mark Earthquake Relief Fund on the memo line of your check. As we are a tax-exempt non-profit in California, all donations are tax-exempt. We will supply acknowledgement letters for tax-exempt purposes to those requesting them.

Norma's address is: Norma Fogelberg, 2980 Vallejo St, San Francisco, CA 94123.

Thank you.

Peace and love,

Maria Domoto
