て-form
of
い-Adjectives
(くて) |
Te forms of adjectives can be used in various
structures. When
て-forms
of adjectives are used by itself, it serves as
connecting/linking sentences without any
sentence connector such as
それから、そして、etc. This
linking function is the same as what we learned about
て-forms
of verbs.

い-Adjective root + く + て + another adjective or verb. (Change “い” to “く” and add てright after it.) |

e.g.
このレストランは、おいしくて(あたらしくて)やすいです。 |
Compare the above sentence with what you have learned before (see below).
このレストランは、おいしい、(あたらしい、)やすいレストランです。
Lit. This restaurant is tasty, (new,) and inexpensive restaurant. (It sounds redundant.)
This form requires a noun after the adjectives but if you connect the adjectives with –くて form, noun is not required (in other words, you should not use noun after –くて form.

日本のりんごはアメリカのりんごより大きくて、香りがよくて、甘いです。日本には、四季があって、冬は寒くて、春は暖かくて、夏は暑くて、秋は涼しいです。 すいかは、外が緑色で中が赤くて、丸い大きな夏の果物です。 たまに、中が黄色いすいかも見かけます。
栗は、外が茶色で、中が黄色くて、私の好きな秋の食べ物です。
