Responsible Conduct of Research
Training |
UNCW encourages everyone in the campus community to complete training on the
responsible conduct of research. More information on UNCW's
commitment can be found on the following website: |

(From the Introduction to UNCW's Research Misconduct Policy)
Each member of the university community also
has a responsibility to create and foster an environment promoting
intellectual honesty and the highest standards of academic integrity.
Research misconduct constitutes unacceptable personal conduct with
respect to scholarship and research. Disdain for misconduct in any
aspect of research or scholarly endeavor must be upheld, as misconduct
in any form is destructive of the standards the university attempts to
instill in its students, the public perception of academia and academic
disciplines, and the financial support of the government and other
sponsors for scholarship and research. The
official misconduct policy can be found at: |

Accordingly, RCR training
has become more and more commonplace in graduate schools across the
country, not just in the sciences. In fact,
effective January 4, 2010, the National Science
Foundation mandated RCR training for any graduate student who
is supported on an NSF grant and many instructors
require this training as part of regular course requirements.
Universities expect the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop
similar requirements in the future. There is no better way for you to familiarize yourselves with the
responsibilities for the responsible conduct of evaluation research than
to have you complete the same training module used by thousands of
faculty and students around the country. |
