As you look towards Ocean Isle notice the erosion of the east end of
Sunset Beach island from the migrating inlet.
Erosion:
Wearing away of the land by natural forces. On a beach, the carrying away
of beach material by wave action, tidal currents or by deflation. (2) The
wearing away of land by the action of natural forces.
Inlet:
(1) A narrow strip of water running into the land or between islands. (2)
An arm of the sea (or other body of water) that is long compared to its
width, and that may extend a considerable distance inland.
