Finger
canals (insert fingercanal picture), sometimes shaped like a
"T", are man made canals that extend waterfront property. While
driving east on Second Street from the main causeway, these finger canals
are visible all along your left, spanning the length of almost the entire
back barrier side of the island. These canals are cemented to allow for
construction right along the waters edge. While these canals promote
waterfront property, they can increase erosion and they aren’t very
aesthetically pleasing.
