This pier has long been known as "the longest pier in North
Carolina". The pier was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd but has been
completely rebuilt and is slightly longer than it was prior to the storm. It now
boasts to be not only the longest pier in the state, but also the only pier in
North Carolina with "reef balls". The new pier is several feet higher
and has an elevated observation deck near the end. Standing on the observation
deck provides an excellent view of the entire beach strand of Oak Island. On a
clear day one can see Bald Head Island to the east, and beyond Holden Beach to
the high-rise motels located on Ocean Isle Beach to the west.
