The water, taken from the Cape Fear River, is used to cool the reactors and does not come in contact with radioactive materials. This is the only ocean out-fall in North Carolina where wastewater is dumped into the Atlantic. On a calm day the turbulence created by the out-fall can be seen offshore from the beach access walkovers. Fishing boats are often anchored near this location as it is rumored that the warmer water attracts fish to the area. photo5.jpg (49802 bytes)
