Welcome Email - August 17th

Welcome to HON 210.

If you are getting this email, then you are currently registered for HON 210-306, The Joy of Mathematical Puzzles and Games.

A tentative schedule and syllabus is posted at the course web site - http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/puzzles/ I also put up simple Canvas pages which point directly to these pages or you can access them via my homepage - http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr.

Some of the pages are tentative since I'm still working out some of the details. On the syllabus page you will find two books mentioned with links to Amazon and online pdfs of the books. The first book will be the main book, but there will be many other resources which I’ll place at the other links on the course site: http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/puzzles/materials.htmhttp://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/puzzles/Links.htm, and http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/puzzles/AudVid.htm.

We will meet twice a week on TR at 11:00 in Sartarelli Hall (formerly Osprey) 1021. You are expected to come to every class in order to be successful. This is a face to face class.

Assignments are not posted yet, but I can give you your first one now: Email me telling me about yourself, your background, what interests you about the course, your expectations, and anything else you think I should know. This will help begin our communication. You might also want to start reading The Lady or the Tiger and the first Chapter of the main text. You might want to see a late night appearance of Smullyan at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E27v83WWiGo.

I hope you find this to be a fun and challenging course.

Homework Assignments - August 30

There seems to be some confusion on the problem that were assigned. Problems in the Recreational Mathematics book are at the end of the Chapter and labeled Exercises. The problems for the first two weeks start on page 26. I've added starting page numbers to the Assignments page.
