First Homework Assignment - Email Dr. Herman!

Addition of Vectors - Sample Problem This page shows all of the steps related to solving the problem of adding vectors in order to determine the net force acting on the charge due to two charges not lying in as line. It serves as a review from PHY 101 as applied to problems in Chapter 18.

Dec 28 Welcome

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

I hope you have a fun, but safe, New Year. Within the next week we will
be starting the Spring Semester - You are registered at this time for
PHY 102.  In case you want to get started, or are wondering what we may
be doing, I have posted a web page at http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/phy102 There may be a few minor changes to the site as well as additional links to content that we will be covering. You will find a syllabus at that site and an idea
as to what I will expect. Of course, those who have had me already
should know! :) I do not know anything at this time about the labs.

The first assignment will be to email me with whatever you wish to tell
me and how we can establish communication as soon as possible. I am
interested in your success in the course and to make sure you know what
I expect. Class is at 12:00 pm three days a week and I expect you there.
I will have standing office hours, but I will answer emails, set up
additional appointments if possible, and do what I can to help you
through the course.

By now you should know your way around the Learning Center and other
resources on campus. I hope we have an enjoyable semester and I will
see you on Wednesday.

Jan 3 Useful Information

Homework Hints - I posted a few hints on the first homework. This homework is due Wednesday. As we are just getting back into the swing of classes, I thought you might need some hints. It has been at least a month since you have done any physics thinking and even longer since you have thought about forces.

Also, I quickly put together some pointers on doing physics homework and some expectations about how homework should look. It is http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/phy102/hwjoys.doc .
