New Notices will be posted here.Welcome - August 7Welcome to MAT 365. If you are getting this email, then you are currently registered for Vector Calculus. A tentative schedule and syllabus is posted at the course web site - http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/mat365/index.htm There you will find links to the textbooks. The first book by Bressoud is the main text. The other text is optional. However, it is a good book that any serious math major should read and have on their bookshelf. It provides a little more rigor to what we will be studying. There are some much cheaper versions of the text(s) at Amazon.com. I would encourage you to look them up. Start reading the book and thinking about the first homework. This course is a little more advanced version of Calc III. We will see some of the same topics with a little more insight added and some elements of differential geometry. It is definitely a course you would like to take to understand the classic vector theorems (Stokes, Gauss, Green) better and is good background before taking more advance courses in applied mathematics and physics. There is plenty of room for more students. So, bring your friends as registered students into the class. The class meets three days a week at 8 AM. We begin Wednesday August 19th. I expect to see you in class everyday and hope you stop by my office with questions. By the way, those who have had me before my main office has moved to DeLoach 203. Its almost big enough to hold this class in it. J Anyway, do not be strangers and feel free to email me throughout the semester. I hope you had a good summer and are ready for a wonderful semester. |
