REPORTS

These will be reports which are typed with double-spacing and 12 pt font. You will be expected to use correct English grammar and punctuation. Do not just list the answers, but put everything into proper sentence and paragraph form. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE text from the Internet.  You should show that you have read and digested the material. All work that is not yours is supposed to be supported with a bibliography whenever write. Grades are typically given based upon proper, answering questions, and evidence of the effort made. You are expected to list references, including non-electronic library materials.

Paper #1 First Three Minutes - Due November 1st

In this paper you are to answer the questions based upon your reading of Weinberg's First Three Minutes.

  1. Explain Weinberg's timeline for events during the first three minutes.
  2. Point out at least a half dozen things that we have learned since Weinberg's book was published which have a direct impact on our current understanding of the the first three minutes. Be careful to reference your comments with dates, experiments, people, etc.

Paper #2 Beyond the Course - Due November 29th

In this paper you are to explore a topic in depth beyond what we have covered in the class, such as the formation of structure, recent observations, models beyond the standard model, etc. Describe the topic, important players in the field, and the relationship to what you have learned in the course.
