New Notices will be posted here.__________________________________________________Welcome - August 14Welcome to HON 210-301, The Physics of Interstellar. In this course we will use Interstellar as a launching pad to explore the mysteries of the universe from its origins to the recent discoveries of gravitational waves spawned by colliding black holes, interstellar travel, and the portrayal of black holes and wormholes in film. I have created a Canvas page with links to the course material. A more direct link to the site is http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/Interstellar/.A tentative schedule and syllabus is posted at the course web site. The books to be used are posted there. Plan to read them and be prepared for discussions. I'll introduce you to the course on the first day, August 20th. As this course has never been taught before, I still have a few details to figure out based on your interest in the course. To get started, your first assignment is to email me and tell me about yourself, why you are taking this class, and what you want to learn. I hope you had a good summer and are ready for a wonderful semester. This
looks to be challenging. We will at least begin with face to face
instruction. To keep it that way, we need to practice social distancing and
wear face coverings over your mouth and nose. Wash hands often and clean up
your area before leaving. Please read the Covid statements on the syllabus. My office is in OS 2007J. Feel free to locate it
and plan to visit during the semester with face coverings and social
distancing.
