Fall 2009
Despite the webpage's meager appearance, students may find some useful information below. If you find a link that isn't working, email me at henrye AT uncw DOT edu (change AT and DOT to form email address).
EXAM 4 RESULTS are now accessible via a link posted here.
posted 10/20/09: Homework #2 instructions are posted here Due Nov. 2
Comments about the exams: Some students may not have had much experience with multiple choice exams. Here are links to a couple of webpages that provide suggestions about how to prepare for, and take, a multiple choice exam: webpage1 and webpage2 . You can also find many similar resources on the internet. If you think you could benefit from some additional instruction related to study skills, including multiple choice tests, contact the UNCW University Learning Services office: http://www.uncw.edu/stuaff/uls/index.htm or 962-7857. They may also be able to help you find a tutor for this class.
Slides from lectures. Many of the slides used in lecture are in the files below. WARNING: Material will be covered in class that is not on the slides!!! Coming to class every day is the easiest way to increase your odds of doing well in this class. The password necessary to access the slides is given out in class. The password is the same for all chapters and the class schedule posted at the top of this page.
The slides are available in 3 formats:
1) an adobe file (*.pdf) that has 1 slide per page. The file is too big to fit on a floppy disk. This version is useful if you are viewing the slides on a computer or if you have difficulty reading the text on the smaller slides in the next file format. It wouldn't be very environmentally friendly to print this version.
2) a pdf file that contains 3 slides per page and is probably small enough to fit onto a floppy disk. Students sometimes find it useful to print this version and take notes on it during class.
2) a pdf file that contains 6 slides per page and is probably small enough to fit onto a floppy disk. Many students like to print this version and take notes on it during class. 6 slides on a page helps save paper.
Only slides for current topics are
"active".

There is a website that accompanies the textbook: http://wps.prenhall.com/esm_keller_envgeology_8 There are links on this page to materials for each chapter. The webpages for each chapter have a series of questions under "Understanding the concepts" and "Applying the concepts". These questions may help you review for the lectures and tests, but are not inclusive of all material that will be on the tests. Students and I have found some errors in the questions. The publisher has been good about correcting the errors we found. Let me know if you think you have found any additional errors.
In addition to taking the online quizzes, you should also review your class notes and read the portions of the book that correspond to the material we discussed in class.
