CSC 131 - Introduction to Computer Science

Homework 1 – Due Thursday, Aug. 24, 11:59pm

Submitted on Blackboard (learn.uncw.edu)

The main purpose of this assignment is to get Python installed and working on your personal laptop or home computer.

Step 1: Install Python.

Go here: https://www.python.org/downloads/ and download the latest version of Python 3.6.

Step 2: Start IDLE.

There are many useful websites for showing you the rudiments of IDLE.  This one is very simple: http://www.annedawson.net/Python_Editor_IDLE.htm
There are also a number of YouTube videos that you might find useful.
And, of course, we will be using it in class every day.

Step 3: Write a small program

Write a program that will prompt the user to enter their name.   Have a second prompt that asks them for their age.   Then print out to the screen something similar to “Jane, you are 23 years old.”  Please name your file, “Homework1.py”.     Always include your name as a comment at the top of the program.   An example running of your code might look like:

What is your name? Jane

What is your age? 33

Jane, you are 33 years old.

Step 4: Submit this program to Blackboard under Homework Assignment 1.

This will require you to know where you saved your .py file when you created it.   If your IDLE editor window is still open, you will see the full directory name displayed on the title bar.
