Description: CSC 100. Orientation to Computer Science (1). Introduction to the field of computer science. Overview of computer science disciplines, application areas, and career options. Presentations in the department’s research areas. This course is a required course for all majors and minors in computer science.
o An understanding of
o Attendance is critical and will be factored into the final grade.
o Prior to each lecture, students will complete a reading assignment with an associate Blackboard assessment.
o Students will have two midterms (administered on Blackboard) that covers material of preceding lectures.
o There is no final exam.
o This a 1-credit course taken A-F. It may not be taken Pass/Fail. Grading is on the traditional 10-point scale with pluses/minuses allocated at the discretion of the instructor. Class participation and timely completion of assignments are significant factors in the awarding of pluses and minuses.
o Attendance policy: Attendance will be taken at each class meeting. Students may miss one session without penalty. Missing two sessions will result in an attendance grade of 92; 3 sessions: 85; 4 sessions: 75; 5 sessions, 65. If a student misses more than 5 class meetings, that student automatically fails the course.
o Grade calculation:
