The final exam for this course will be an at-home assignment.   The assignment is a 5-page paper (double spaced).   The topic: Imagine you are given a 4-year fellowship to attend graduate school towards a PhD in Computer Science.   What computer science topic would you choose to research?   Your paper organization might look something like:

I.                     The topic

II.                   The state-of-the-art of the topic

III.                  What specific area within the topic would you tackle

IV.                How would your research change the world

A specific example might be something like

            I.          Driverless cars

            II.          A discussion of the recent DARPA Grand Challenges

III.                  The ability of automated cars to communicate with each other

IV.                Reduced accidents, improved gas mileage, greener technology

You must cite a minimum of 3 non-web site sources (magazines, conference papers, journals, newspapers, books).   You may not choose the same topic as your midterm paper.  This assignment is to be turned in electronically by the last day of classes, December 04.   There will be no in-class final during Finals Week.
