Welcome to EDN 579: Instructional Leadership in Secondary Schools

Introduction
Students earning the M.Ed. in Secondary Education must complete a culminating
product/portfolio as part of EDN 579: Instructional Leadership in Secondary Schools. The portfolio should provide evidence that students 1) have synthesized the learning from
graduate courses, and 2) are able to demonstrate proficiency in meeting professional
standards such as INTASC, National Board Certification, or the national standards of other learned societies.

Course Description
Facilitates the development of instructional leadership skills and professional documentation of scholarly teaching by providing expectations and assignments promoting development of leadership skills and preparation and defense of professional documentation and portfolio products.

Course Goals
The overall course goals include development of instructional leadership skills, and professional documentation of excellent teaching. This course facilitates the development of both goals through expectations and assignments. This seminar approach facilitates each student's development of leadership skills and preparation and defense of portfolio products that could contribute to that student's efforts to seek National Board Certification. Students who complete the course successfully will be able to:

1. Identify and articulate concepts of instructional leadership and professional
practice.
2. Demonstrate instructional leadership skills.
