EDN 200L                    Teacher, School and Society Lab                  John Fischetti

Welcome to EDNL 200 Section 7! To begin the course you’ll need to go to this web address:

http://uncw.eduprise.com/webct/public/home.pl

Once there, log on with your initials and the last four digits of your social security number for your user name, for example, ABC1234.  You must capitalize your three initials. Your password will be the last five digits of your social security number.   If another login screen comes up, press cancel and you should be directed to our homepage.

Once you’re in the course, notice the links on the green navigational side bar. Take some time and explore each link. The Calendar will be the place you will read your specific assignments.

For January 10th, you will use the internal Mail tool to send me an email describing your technology strengths and areas for growth.  Don’t send an email to me at my UNCW address.  Stay inside our on-line homepage for our lab assignments.  Please send your on-line assignments to me this way.  Use my regular email address to contact me otherwise.  You should log on to the course at least every other day to check your email.  To send a message, click on Compose Message, Browse, then highlight the name of the person to whom you wish to send an email.

The Discussion Forum is where you’ll actually submit your reflections. When you click on the Forum, you’ll see a topic that connects to the topic assigned on the calendar for the week. You’ll be asked to read others’ comments and respond to them as well. Everything posted here is for public viewing; all your classmates will be able to read what you’ve posted.   You will post this by going to the Discussion Forum found in the green side bar on the homepage. Once you're in the Discussion Forum, click on the topic “Reflection #1.” You may either submit by typing directly into the text box, or you may word process it and submit this as an attachment. To submit as an attachment, simply hit the BROWSE box, select the name of the file, and be sure and click on ATTACH FILE. Finally, you must click on POST. You make preview your work before posting or cancel if you choose not to submit. Remember that all your classmates will be able to read what you've written here. You should see a paper clip when you submit if you've attached the file correctly.

This method of submitting is the same method you'll use to submit your graded assignments. The advantage of saving your work as a WORD file and then submitting it is that you can utilize the spell check feature and have all your work saved on your disk or hard drive. Typing directly into the text box will work as well, but you always run the risk of having a computer glitch and losing your work. For long assignments, I'd definitely suggest using the attachment method.

The Chat feature works just like any chat room with one exception. Within the four numbered Chat rooms, I’ll be able to record your interactions with your peers. The general chat room is not recorded. You will be asked to use this feature at least four times as indicated on the schedule.  We will be chatting starting January 17th.
