Recognized as one of America's premier instrumental ensembles, the
Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is one of the most charismatic and versatile groups performing today. Popularly known as the LAGQ, these four virtuosi bring a new energy to the concert stage with their eclectic programs and dynamic musical interplay. Their inventive, critically-acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world-music realms continually break new ground.

Brazilian singer, musician, and composer
Luciana Souza
is equally comfortable singing jazz, the bossa nova and samba standards of her homeland, and the new operas of Osvaldo Golijov. Singing in both Portuguese and English, Souza first captivated U.S. listeners when she recorded and toured with Danilo Perez’ Pan-American “Motherland Project.” Working wither piano trio, Souza puts her unique omni-cultural stamp on the timeless jazz standards of such singers as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.

For the UNCW performance, the Grammy Award-winning LAGQ joins forces with two-time Grammy nominee Luciana Souza in a program of songs by Manuel de Falla, Osvaldo Golijov, Heitor Villa-Lobos, things Brazilian and a few surprises.

Above & Beyond! Lecture/Demonstration led by members of the LAGQ and Luciana Souza for youth ages 7-18 Sat., Oct. 14 from 3-4 pm, DREAMS Center for Arts Education, 515 Ann Street. Free and open to the public for observation but registration is required. RSVP to artsinaction@uncw.edu or 962.7971.
