Description: Mar Joe Quarry No. 1 Cave was a fairly well developed but small lead mine located on the at the base of a bluff known as Horseshoe Bluff which faced the Mississippi River. It was adjacent to Mar Joe Quarry but later quarry operations eventually mined out the cave site. What was the cave site lies within the Mines of Spain Park. When we found it there were still remains of the wooden rails used by the miners to move their ore carts. The un-worked red sediment within the cave held a thin vein of galena and scattered bits of cog ore.
