Kennedy Mine

General Location: Sw1/4 SE1/4 SE1/4 sec. 35 T. 89 N. R. 2 E.

Description: Kennedy Mine is located on Kennedy Crevice. It consists of a single adit and shaft with tunnels developed at two closely spaced levels which is unusual for the area. At the site are also numerous mineral holes and a well developed trench to the west. The site represents one of better examples of earlier diggings, probably pre 1830, being reworked by later diggings, circa 1840s. The upper level is largely free of the red soil and still contains much galena in tight pockets along the crevice trace in the tunnel ceiling. Some of these are nice cubes two or more inches on a side. The miners must have considered these to much trouble to go after.

Whitney's map locates the site as the Kennedy Crevice. The Brown and Whitlow Map indicate the shaft and some 'lead pits' near by. MF 116 indicates the shaft and shows to adits, both closed and heading in the wrong direction.
