Final Exam Review:
Your exam will focus on translation and on vocabulary, both independent and
as integrated into the reading. So here's what to expect:
I. Vocabulary
- Three sets of 10-item matching on vocabulary since midterm
- 6 dictionary-form items (as in the quizzes) chosen from 10 possibilities
II. Gender, number and case exercise based on words that we have
studied since midterm
III. Translation
- A series of short sentences which have a limited vocabulary, but will
have differences and modifications so you can show me that you have
mastered:
- the subjunctive uses of the whole semester,
- indirect speech
- comparisons of adverbs (and for that matter, adjectives)
- cases and tenses
- time and place uses of ablative and accusative
- miscellaneous grammar in Wheelock 32-38.
IV. Catullus and Horace:
- A brief passage of 3-6 lines from a Catullus poem (any except 5), to
translate fairly literally.
- A brief passage of 3-6 lines from a Horace poem (1.5, 1.9, 1.11, or
1.23), to translate fairly literally.
