PED 415

BOOK REPORT

Choose a book (novel, autobiography, biography, nonfiction, play), which deals with individuals and disabilities. One purpose is that by reading, you will gain a better understanding of the human dimensions of those individuals living with a disability.

Things to consider while choosing and reading a book:   the attitudes of and toward the individual with a disability, how individuals with disabilities cope with their situation, image/role of the medical personnel involved with the individual, the role of society, etc.

While reading the book, you should keep a journal with brief entries after each reading. The entries should be summarized and sent to the instructor weekly (Monday), via e mail (combsc@uncwil.edu)

After completing the book, you are responsible for critiquing the contents.  Include the following sections:

a.      Complete bibliographic reference to the book:  Author’s last name, first name initial, date of publication, full title of book, publication information.

b.      Provide a short (3 page, typed) interpretive section (what is the prevailing theme found in the text, what is your reaction to the theme).

c.        List strengths and weaknesses about the book, cite examples.

d.      Rate the book, express your opinion (make certain there is evidence you have read the book).

e.       Be prepared to briefly discuss book and report in class.
