BOOK
REPORT
Choose
a book (novel, autobiography, biography, nonfiction, play), which deals with
individuals and disabilities. One purpose is that by reading, you will gain a
better understanding of the human dimensions of those individuals living with a
disability.
Things
to consider while choosing and reading a book:
the attitudes of and toward the individual with a disability, how
individuals with disabilities cope with their situation, image/role of the
medical personnel involved with the individual, the role of society, etc.
While
reading the book, you should keep a journal with brief entries after each
reading. The entries should be summarized and sent to the instructor weekly
(Monday), via e mail (combsc@uncwil.edu)
After
completing the book, you are responsible for critiquing the contents.
Include the following sections:
a.
Complete bibliographic reference to the book:
Author’s last name, first name initial, date of publication, full title
of book, publication information.
b.
Provide a short (3 page, typed) interpretive section (what is the
prevailing theme found in the text, what is your reaction to the theme).
c.
List strengths and weaknesses about the book, cite examples.
d.
Rate the book, express your opinion (make certain there is evidence you
have read the book).
e. Be prepared to briefly discuss book and report in class.
