Course Description

This course will provide students with an understanding of the principles that underlie the fundamentals and applications of computer technology in physical education and health.

Objectives

At the completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1.  Understand the fundamentals of computer hardware.
2.  Demonstrate effective use of various forms of computer software.
3.  Understand the fundamentals of computer networking.
4.  Effectively use Internet search engines.
5.  Create a well-designed WWW homepage.
6.  Understand the ethical issues involved in computer use.
7.  Understand applications of current and emerging technologies

Capron, H. L. (2000).  Computers:  Tools for an Information Age (Brief edition, 2nd edition).  Upper Saddle River, NJ:  Prentice Hall.

3 - 5 High Density 3 1/2 disks

Participation and Attendance

Regular class attendance is expected.  You will be allowed two (2) absences without point penalty.  Every absence after the allowed number will result in a three point penalty per absence.  Extreme emergencies impacting attendance will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Participation in the educational process means attending classes, being prepared and attentive, participating in activities, helping other students whenever possible, completing assignments on time, learning on your own beyond the class content, and expressing yourself creatively in your work.

Assignments

Assignments are due at the beginning of class unless other directions are given.  Assignments turned in after class will be considered late.  Late assignments will be accepted with a point penalty of three (3) points per day.  If you know that you will be absent on a day when an assignment is due, it is your responsibility to get the assignment turned in prior to your absence.

Grading

When grading class assignments/projects, the following items are considered:
Spelling (Misspelled words)
Grammar (Subject/verb agreement, common and proper nouns, fragmented sentences, etc.)
Appropriateness (Language and/or inferences, suitable for targeted grade level, etc.)
Professionalism/Aesthetics (Quality of work expected by professional educators)
Adherence to Project Criteria (Criteria listed on project assignment handouts)
